The Spartans Welcome GM and Head Coach David Lang

The Innisfil Spartans Jr C Hockey club is proud to announce David Lang as the organization’s new Head Coach and General Manager.

Lang (34 yrs old), the Keswick, ON native, will be the club’s 2nd Head Coach and General Manager in the team’s history.

He brings some NAHL experience (Lone Star Brahmas) and OJHL front office experience to the Spartans. He had stints with the Haliburton County Huskies, where he was the Director of Hockey Operations. The Lindsay Muskies where he rose from a team scout to the team’s General Manager, and as a special advisor to the GM with the Cobourg Cougars.

Behind the bench, Lang has spent the past few seasons learning the “coaching craft” in the GTHL AAA ranks with the Mississauga Reps and Markham Majors, where he coaches with former AHL defenseman Jody Robinson.

Prior to that, Lang was Assistant Coach and General Manager of the Essa Stallions in the now defunct CPJHL. While working with now NAHL Corpus Christi Ice Rays Head Coach Sylvain Cloutier, they led the Stallions to back-to-back Presidents Cup Championships, amassing a 2 year record of 88 wins and 11 losses.

He has had great success in helping move players on to higher levels (Major Jr, NCAA Div I and NCAA Div III, ACHA, and Professional leagues in North America and Europe) and continues to do so, as Lang is the Director of Recruiting out of the OHL and WHL for the University of Prince Edward Island out of the AUS Division in U Sport.

“I’m very lucky to have worked with some great people in this small hockey world. Far and away, I’ve learned so much from Sylvain (Cloutier) and Jody (Robinson) through this journey. Both are very different coaches in ways and situations, so it really helps me learn from two people who’ve seen the game at the highest of levels. They’ve taught me so many qualities and nuances about the game. They’ll never know how much I appreciate their tutelage, to this day. I hope to continue implementing what I know, and learning more each day to become the best version of myself I can be”.

“I want to thank the entire Floros family for this opportunity. I’m grateful for the consideration and support, and I look forward to building this program, and keeping it on the right track.”

Lang has hired a former player and the team’s captain from his Essa days, Evan Daniel, to be the team’s new Assistant Coach.

“Evan knows what I preach and what I expect from our players. He has seen the success that our program achieved firsthand when he played for me in the past, so he understands the importance of attention to detail, and execution of game plans.” “He is a leader, was a great role player on the ice, and will convey clear and concise messages to our players in their development” Lang added.

“Everyone here will ROW the boat in the same direction. From the group of players that are selected, to the front office, to our amazing training staff, and supporting volunteers. We will continue to get better each and every day, not only on the ice as a team, but off the ice as respected individuals in our communities.”

Lang and the Spartans will begin their 2023-2024 Pre-Season at home on Sunday, August 27th as they welcome the visiting Schomberg Cougars.
